Giclée Printing - Fine Art Or Photographic

Giclée Printing Media - Archival Quality Acid Free Media

  • Folex Fine Art Photo 310gsm - Acid free matte archival paper. Unrivalled image quality for fine art prints and matte photographic prints. Natural white very lightly textured paper.

  • Folex Fine Art Contour 310gsm - Acid free matte archival paper. Unrivalled image quality for fine art prints and matte photographic prints. Similar to Fine Art Photo 310gsm but with a slightly warmer white base and a more pronounced texture.

  • Folex Fine Art Canvas 320gsm - Acid free unbleached archival canvas. The highest quality canvas for fine art reproductions or photographic prints. This canvas differs from others as it uses unbleached cotton giving a traditional brown back to the media and a nice natural white surface. This canvas can be finished with a matte or satin UV coating.

  • Fibre Based Gloss 300gsm - Acid free archival paper. The luxurious satin/pearl finish to this natural white paper ensures that photographic prints will rival the look and feel of traditional fibre based silver gelatin paper whilst the acid free base creates an archival print with a life span that exceeds archival fibre based silver gelatin prints. The ultimate paper for monochrome photographic prints.

  • Hahnemühle Digital Fine Art papers are available.

Giclée Details - The Finest Quality Fine Art & Photographic Prints

Giclée prints are widely accepted in galleries worldwide as an ultra high quality method of printing limited edition or open edition print runs. Fine art can be digitally reproduced upon a wide variety of papers each offering different finishes and weights similar to traditional artists media.

We only print upon high quality Digital Fine Art media specifically designed for maximum image quality and print longevity. All of our fine art giclée prints are coated using a UV resistant coating to ensure maximum life-span for the prints. Tests suggest a life-span in excess of 100 years under optimum conditions.

If you are unsure of which paper you would like then please contact us and request a samples pack.

Giclée printing offers photographers the highest quality and archival properties of any digital printing.

Papers are available with the same finishes as traditional wet process papers yet offer over five times the life-span. Digital giclée prints can last over 100 years under the optimum conditions whereas traditional photographic prints will degrade considerably after 20 years.

Giclée prints have a turnaround time of 48 hrs as standard. We leave prints for 24 hrs to fully cure before spraying with U.V spray which is then left for 24 hrs to fully cure, ensuring that prints have reached maximum stability.

Digital fine art reproduction can be achieved using our Scan/Capture service or we are able to accept digital files of sufficient quality.

Using all of the expertise gained through fine art Giclée printing, OGPC are able to print upon archival quality unbleached canvas with all of the quality associated with fine art prints. Cotton canvas provides a stunning media which produces beautiful images with outstanding colour and tonal definition. A special UV resistant coating is applied to canvases to increase durability and print longetivity.

Fine art can be digitally reproduced upon canvas giving the same look and feel as original paintings. This opens up new markets for limited edition print runs.

Below are examples of different printing technologies used in fine art reproduction and photographic printing. We believe that these samples clearly show how superior giclée printing is compared to other available printing

Each sample was captured at the same magnification, 20 x, and shows a smooth non patterned medium grey patch of the same image reproduced using each printing technique. The samples clearly show that Giclée printing gives the smoothest tonal reproduction and the smallest ink droplet size. The patterns clearly visible on Lithographic and Laser printing will hinder the creation of razor sharp prints with smooth tonal gradation and neutral colour reproduction.

File Quality For Submitted Digital Files - Ensuring The Highest Quality Prints By Creating The Highest Quality Files

Below are a few tips outlining how to create quality files, more in depth details can be found on our Proof page.

  • 16bit TIFF files saved without compression are the best format for printing. Other file formats compress the image and thus reduce its quality. Other file formats are accepted for photographs but not recommended for fine art. 8bit images will produce high quality fine art or photographic prints.

  • 300dpi is the optimum resolution for producing prints. Anything less will severely reduce the sharpness and tonality of the print.

  • Files should be saved at the largest size possible. Never shrink the size of your file. We have software that can upscale images to larger sizes if needed.

  • Save files with the ADOBE RGB colour profile embedded. Srgb is accepted for photographic printing but not recommended for fine art reproduction or exhibiton quality photographic prints.

  • Files can be sent to us on DVD, CD, Memory cards or uploaded via FTP.
